I offered this tasty recipe at my family gathering. It is perfect for autumn and winter evenings and to enjoy with warm drinks. You can use ready-made apple jams that can be heated in the oven, or make it yourself.
I started the baking process by preparing the apple jam filling first.
I used the following recipe:
150 grams of butter
1/2 dl sugar
1-2 apple (depending on the size)
Pinch of cinnamon
Melt the sugar in the pan. When the sugar has melted, add the butter. Mix these carefully together. After the ingredients look well mixed, add the chopped apple pieces into the pan. Mix these and let them heat for a while in the pan. Add cinnamon and move the mixture away from the hot burner. Let the mix cool.
Start preparing the dough for the buns.
5 dl milk
50 g yeast
1 egg
1 1/2 dl sugar
1 tablespoon salt
1 tbsp cardamom
around 1 kg wheat flour
100 – 150 grams of margarine or butter
- Take all the ingredients to room temperature
- Heat the milk to hand temperature
- After this add or crumble the yeast to the warm milk and let it dissolve.
- Add the egg and the spices.
- Mix flour into the milk so that the liquid is a thick mixture. Whisk it so that the mixture has a bit shiny texture.
- Then add almost all of the rest of the wheat flour with hands. Leave some for the baking stage. Knead the dough until it is bouncy and smooth.
- Add the butter that has been softened to the dough and mix with hands. After this, the dough should start to separate from the hands and edges of the bowl.
- Cover the bowl with a kitchen cloth and replace it in a warm place. Let the dough rise until twice its size.
- After that, pour the dough out of the bowl to the clean table or surface. Knead the dough and divide it into two portions. Roll out these parts so that they are wide and flat.
- Fill it with apple filling and a pinch of cinnamon. Then roll the dough and cut the bar into even-sized buns.
- Lift the buns to the oven sheet that has baking paper in it and let the buns rest.
- You can egg the buns and add some nib sugar to the surface.
- Bake the buns in the second-lowest rack placement of the oven in 225°C for 8-10 minutes. After which take it out of the oven and let cool it down.
